Prayers for May 26, 2002

Trinity Sunday

Invocation

Jesus we ask that You come into our lives, our real lives and make us see the real world Your want for each of us.

We come to celebrate the real world, O God, that You want. A world where there is no more war or famine or crime or disasters. We come to celebrate God's real world as our real world in these moments of worship and celebration. Amen.

Prayer of Confession

O God, teach us that we live in the real world. O God, teach us that we live in a world where what the church does matters. We confess that we too easily fall out with each other in our church families. We confess that the church we may talk about forgiveness, yet often grudges are held in abundance. We confess that we forget what lessons are we teaching others as the look at us and our church family. O God, come and heal Your body the church one person at a time.

Prayer of Dedication

We have few chances to change the world, so let these gifts help to change the world. Help this action of giving make the world hear Jesus words of love. Amen.

Pastoral Prayer

Jesus, please come among us and remind us that the world as we presently know it will one day pass away. Keep us from pretending that this is the real world and that it's going to go on forever.

O God, show us our mission, as followers of Jesus. Help us to prepare the people of this world for what's coming. Help us to teach them about Jesus and the real world that Jesus has in mind. O God, as we go forth to do that teaching, we need to remember that our words alone are not going to be enough. Full us with the courage to act so that these actions speak loudly enough so that everyone can hear us. Help us shout out to the world with our actions of love. We pray in the name of Jesus Christ, whose actions of love changed the world. Amen.
