Prayers for June 17, 2001
11th Sunday in Ordinary Time
2nd Sunday after Pentecost
Corpus Christi Sunday

Invocation
For law and life, love and grace, we come to give thanks.
Let appreciation in us grow for Your way.
For now and later, here and there, hope and even frustration.
We come to give thanks.
For what we have been able to do with our lives and the places where we have been blocked,
We come to give thanks.
We come to await Your time, Your day, and Your way. Amen.

Prayer of Confession
When we substitute our way for Your way, O God, call us back.
When we get confused out of fear, or hurt, or betrayal, cause us to hope again. Rest us. Let our hurt be healed so that we may go forward in You. If we have betrayed, or caused any to fear, forgive us. Let us make amends. Let us not only get back to Your path but also help others to do the same. We pray in the Name of Jesus who is the Way, Amen.

Prayer of Dedication
In the name of the Risen Christ, the one who burst forth from the grave let these gifts burst forth into usefulness to someone somewhere soon. May they add to the lives of those in need and to our lives as we find the joy of giving. Amen.

Pastoral Prayer
In the name of the Resurrection, we pray for a great “risenness” to come among us. Let us be the people who know hope, life, truth, the people who won’t take no for an answer, the people who prefer the light to the dark and who show the way.
When people say the poor are always with us, let our voices resoundingly say no. When others claim the inevitability of pollution, damaged air, unclean water, profits polluting the airwaves, let us be the ones who remember what you would say. Roll away the stones in the way of our hope.
Let us yet be your people. The ones who aren’t afraid even of their own cynicism but instead risk foolishness on behalf of your wisdom.
If any need a hand from us today, let us give it.
If any need a word of hope, let it find its way to our lips.
If any to whom we are close are wondering if we really love them, help us to assure them.
And if a place in our heart is lonely for You, let it open to your abiding presence. Here, now , in the hopeful silence of the empty tomb. Amen.
